Hi, Id like to know my chances

Freshman at Rutgers- NB
3.6 GPA
Some EC's
Work Study

1110 SAT CR/MATH
HIGH SCHOOL GPA 3.6

CARROLL COUNTY RESIDENT

What are my chances for transfer?

Only thing is I have an English class this year, but no math as is desired by Maryland?

Not sure. I haven't read a lot about how transfers are evaluated. My son has an AA from a Maryland community college with a 3.0. He has some excellent EC's and work experience. I think he had a pretty good essay. He got in. We had no idea whether he would make it or not until he received the acceptance e-mail. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

as a transfer i wouldn't worry about. For a second i thought those were high school stats which don't apply here since you'll likely have over credits. I spoke to a counselor the other day here and she told me that this years freshman were all 4.0's with near perfect SAT's, i couldn't believe it, she told me this year admissions has not been like prior years, hopefully this gives us a bump in the ranks.

yeah I have 12 credits from fall.. so i have to submit my high school stats

SarahLitke,

Not to call you out but you're counselor is bsing you. Transfer is much easier than regular admission. Marylandkid, I think you're definitely qualified with a 3.6 GPA and if they don't feel that, then I'm sure a college like UMiami, Emory, WashU, Michigan and NYU would definitely take you with a 3.6 GPA. That's a pretty damn good GPA for first semester.

I was looking into transferring to Emory or WashU from Maryland and I asked my cousins and stuff what transfers need and she said 3.5 is the magic number as long as you have a decent high school GPA. Is the 3.6 UW for hs or W? We'll, I decided not to wait for emory and washu and transferred to UMiami for Spring Semester with a 3.48 GPA from Maryland. I know one kid @ miami who got in for spring too from rutgers with a 3.3 GPA.

thanks... what do you think about chances at brandeis? i want a school with a sizeable jewish population?

do u think that having a W on my transcript from first semester and droppiung from 16 to 12 credits will impact my admission to maryland?

Not sure about that. Guessing your Jewish?, LOL and I think you can tell I'm Jewish too, LOL.

Maryland is definitely one if not the biggest Jewish population on campus in the nation (20% of the campus). Though, Miami is amazingly Jewish too. The Hillel and Chabad and JCLE (Jewish Collegiate Learning Experience) is amazing. The rabbis are awesome and it's just a nice family feel.

Not sure you're major, but maybe put an application into UPenn, you never know. It's very jewish too.

Not sure how the W and dropping credits will impact you.

you'll get in maryland. dont worry. but, transfering sucks because you dont get housing, i.e harder to make friends, much harder since half the people commute and the classes are huge.

You can fix the friends factor by rushing/pledging a fraternity and getting involved in many clubs. Maryland has Alpha Epsilon Pi and Zeta Bau Tau. I was actually gonna pledge AEPi this semester but transferred to Miami.

marylandkid-- comparing Brandeis and UMD is like apples and oranges. They are completely different. Are you looking for a big university or a smaller campus? (Brandeis is 1/10 the size of Maryland.) Do you want a "sizeable Jewish population" in percentage (Brandeis is 40% Jewish) or simply in numbers? (Maryland has 5000 Jewish undergrads (~20%)--more than Brandeis' entire student body!) Make sure to take differences like that into consideration.
