i applied to um kinda last minute so i didnt even think about my chances of getting in haha

so now im just wondering..esp. cuz im not familiar with it
i know its a good school, just now HOW good..

ANYWAY stats:
current freshman at respectable california university (not usc, my names misleading!)
hs gpa: 3.5ish? weighted (unweighted, not much difference)
sat: 2050
college gpa: 3.652

lots of h.s. ec's 200+ community service hours
a few college ec's, a 10 hr/week job, 20+ comm service hours
i think i had some pretty good essays too

THANKS :D

Well if you would have applied much earlier I think you would have a decent chance.

i think you misunderstood haha. i applied well before the transfer deadline.
by last minute i meant i didn’t think much about it before I applied.

any other comments would be appreciated :)

i’d say you are a reach, but admissible

I’d consider a few things

Michigan is a state school, already making your chances of admission lower

On UofM’s website it lists some criteria it considers important. The top ones listed are your college gpa and how many credits you have completed. It is my understanding that it is easier to get in going for junior standing as opposed to soph.

Your h.s. stats are good in general, but only average for most UofM h.s. gpa. Also, a 3.6 college gpa is good, but it is only one semesters worth

Another big factor is what program are you transferring into? From my personal experiences with people who have transferred in, you generally will need a higher gpa to get into lsa because most people apply into it and they have the “pick of the litter” as the saying goes. I have known quite a few people who got into engineering with 3.0’s but ALL of their required coursework completed so they would be on track.

Since you have so few credits and only pretty good grades, I would say it is doubtful but possible. I have read enough horror stories about oos students with AMAZING grades getting deferred and rejected that i’d err on the cautious side. I think if you maintain your college gpa for another year and apply with more credits under your belt, you have a much better chance.

But take everything on this board with a grain of salt. I myself am in the same boat as you. I’m trying to transfer in, but I have 55 credits completed with a 3.8+ gpa. However, my h.s gpa is way worse than yours. I’m also instate. You could get in and I can get rejected. It is a crap shoot, and honestly all we can do is make judgments based on previous results and michigan’s website. Hope this has been helpful :)

wow thank you so much for your thoughtful and honest answer!

i didn’t take some things you mentioned into consideration so i think i overestimated my chances of getting in (bad planning on my part :/)
luckily, i don’t have my heart set on this school, i really wanna get in, but if i dont i won’t be too devastated. i really wanna get out of this school so i’ll just have to go somewhere else if that’s the case

thanks again and good luck with you’re admission!

haha thanks for not taking my post in a negative way. So many people on this website in general get so uppity and matter of fact about things we can only speculate. I hope everyone who is applying gets in, because I know what people are going through because I myself am going through it :)

Oh I thought you were going to be transfering after completing 2 years at a community college. I now would see the school as being more of a reach.
