Well, after seeing their journalism/communication department, I really am interested in applying here! I'm OOS and I was wondering how hard it it to get into U of Oregon and their School of Journalism & Communication?

BTW, how is the campus/atmosphere? I'm latino, and I know that I would be a minority there, but would I still fit in?

You need to apply as a pre-journalism major, and then after you’ve completed the core requirements for the program you petition to become a full-major. As long as you complete the pre-journalism requirements satisfactorily, you’ll be advanced to a full-major.

If you like a bunch of white kids that smoke a lot of weed you’ll be fine. Lots of people, mostly white, lots of dope, good fun times, go to collegeboard.com for transfer info

Thisisu, you should read over the information on the School of Journalism website. It looked to me as though you would be admitted to the major if you complete the pre-major requirements. I am not certain, but I have some recollection from awhile back that by doing this pre-major–>major progression they relieved the pressure on the program, since it’s very common for students of all majors to change their minds in the course of thier first couple years at college. By having the pre-major program as a screening requirement they get a more select group of major students.

You might want to call the School of Journalism and see what you have taken or could take at your CC that might help fill some of the pre-major requirements even before you get there.

UO is getting more competitive each year. Next year the auto-admit GPA is going up to 3.5, but with a 3.6 from your CC you should be in good shape.

Thanks, I had read the information on the website as well, and by the sound of it, I got the impression you get in after completion of the courses. I just asked to make sure, but I’ll take your advice and contact them personally. :)

And I hope I get in! 3.6 is the minimum I’m striving for, and I really hope my academics, ethnicity and gpa help me get in for my lack of extracurriculars.
