Hi guys I need your help in understanding this piece of info i received from my academic counselor:

As of right now you have had 81.5 credits accepted but only 75 will count towards your degree at AU because students can only transfer in a maximum of 75 credits from a 4 year institution. The articulation process has change and advisors no longer articulation courses so there is a team in the Registrar’s Office who will be articulating your credits and if you have questions as to what your course articulations will be you can email Transfer Articulation at transferarticulation@american.edu.

So…this means i will have 75 credits at the time of admission? So it means i wont be guaranteed housing cos they said students w more than 36credits at the time of admission are not guaranteed housing?? Hope someone helps me understand this!

I think what your adviser is trying (and failing) to say is that you can’t get more than 75 credits as a transfer, and the decision as to which, if any, of your courses will be deemed the equivalent of AU classes for purposes of fulfilling gen ed, major, and graduation requirements is handled by the registrar’s office.

But you really need to call for clarification, because that message was badly garbled.

Got something else back from my counselor!

"Below is a copy of your current list of accepted credit at AU. You will see that there are 81.5 acceptable transfer credits but it is an AU policy that incoming transfer students can transfer in a maximum of 75 credits but that is something we can adjust when you arrive at AU. You will see a column that is currently blank for the AU Equivalencies and that is what the transfer articulation team will be working on completing for you so that you know what AU courses your transfer credits will count as. "

And he just attached a copy of my acceptable transfer credits…So im assuming that i will have 75 credits at the time of admission? Can someone confirm this pls!!!

Yes, I think it’s quite clear now that you will be entering with 75 credits. You had 81.5 that were “acceptable” (e.g., none of them were in basket weaving or any other class that AU doesn’t consider college level), but you maxed out at 75. Now they have to look more closely at the course description of each class and figure out, for example, whether that Introduction to Political Science class you took was roughly equivalent to the same class at AU and should be counted in the same way for purposes of satisfying a Gen Ed and/or major requirement. You can see how that process might take some time and would need to involve professors in the relevant departments.I imagine that by the time you have to finalize your fall course selection, all this will have been sorted out.
