I am a sophomore at a ccc-
I applied to four colleges during the fall of 2018, UCB, USB, UCSC and UCLA as a film production/studies major. Throughout the past month I’ve been getting hit by waves of rejection letters. I got especially surprised by a rejection from USB, in my opinion I believed I had all they were looking for as a student. I figured out that I am missing 5 units, a miscalculation by my counselor, in which she said I needed 20 units this semester(which I am taking) to be at 60units before the end of the semester. However, I do not blame her as it’s entirely my fault for not double checking. What do you think my chances are for appealing my decisions? I understand that UCLA has a low acceptance rate for film, let alone transfers. I have a 4.0 gpa, quite a bit of extracurriculars(a lot in film), ptk and honor student. I was also quite proud of my script, film analysis, and essays I provided to UCLA.
Thank you.
Hey! The problem is that you’re missing 5 units which are absolutely crucial when it comes to applications. These schools are quite hard on the required amount of units to apply. Even though you thought (and you probably are) that you fit into the category that USB was looking for, I believe they had no choice but to reject you for not meeting the requirements. I don’t think that you have great chances of appealing because you didn’t meet the strict requirements.
You know what is weird? I got accepted to UCSC so I wonder why they would accept someone who has not reached 60 credits. Just to make sure, I’m gonna call UCLA and Berkeley and ask why. I don’t mind staying another year at community college though.
Lower-division transfer students:
UC Santa Cruz will admit a limited number of transfer students before they reach junior standing, provided all required coursework is completed prior to enrollment.
So perhaps, UCSC accepted you as a lower division transfer while the other UC’s are stickler’s for the minimum 60 semester/90 quarter units.
