I have a transfer deposit deadline coming up soon. I have not received the aid package yet, and I was wondering if it is considered wrong to deposit and stay enrolled at my current school, and then either un-enroll from my current school or turn down the transfer later after getting both aid packages. I know I would lose the deposit, but if I don’t care about that, is it wrong/unallowed/unethical/etc to both deposit and stay enrolled at my current school?
Contact the transfer institution, and ask for an extension on the deposit date because you have not received the aid package. They should be able to extend the deposit date for two or three days past the day that you receive your aid letter so that you have time to discuss the numbers with your family.
If they would refuse this simple request, I would consider that a clear demonstration that they aren’t people you want to be associated with. However, you certainly would be within your rights to go ahead then and deposit while waiting on the aid information.
