Hi there! I am currently a freshman at the University of Georgia and I am exploring the idea of transferring. My top 2 choices are American University and the University of Washington. I realize that Athens, while a great town, is not for me as I need a college in a more urban setting. There are many other factors leading me to feel that UGA is not MY school. When I was exploring transfer options, I discovered that American Univerisity takes transfers during any point in your college career which makes me believe that I could transfer my spring term of freshman year? I was just wondering if this is, in fact, true and if it would be a completely dumb idea to do. I was accepted to American through their mentorship program but I didn’t take it because I thought I liked UGA more so I believe I have the stats to get in again as a spring transfer. Should I call admissions? Should I just drop the idea entirely and suck it up until sophomore year? please help a desperate, unhappy college freshman!!
The one thing that comes to mind is that you have not been at university very long. Many students feel out of place when they first arrive at university. You for example have not had time yet to make friends, or to really find your way around. Things usually get better over time.
I think that you need to be pretty sure that you actually want to make a transfer before you do so.
