It says they received the transcript, but no data shows up on the transfer credit page.

Have yours showed up yet Daivin?

LDC,
No. Another friend of mine also hasn’t seen anything yet. I think we would just have to wait.

Hi everyone,
I want to transfer from NY my gpa is 3.96, will have 34 credits when applying, I think my essay is very solid, I have some extracurricular activities ( leadership academy, President of a club, volunteer work with reading partners, play guitar) and I want to transfer into aerospace engineering.
I have seen other Georgia tech applicants’ posts on cc and some got wait-listed wit <3.50 GPA (Granted they have more credit hours than I have.
I’m 100% sure all my credits wont transfer because my school is not even on the transfer equivalencies list
<a href=“GT Transfer Articulation -- Find Location”>https://oscar.gatech.edu/pls/bprod/wwsktrna.P_find_location

Another thing: the COE at Tech accepted 42% of applicants in '13 and of all black applicants, 34% were accepted
from your POV, would I get in?

Hi bernoulli4prez
I will also apply Aerospace engineering, very competitive GPA you get.
University not appear in checklist doesn’t mean you course will not be transfer. GT just need to reevaluate all of your classwork. For a final say, I suggest you contact GT admission office

Could you mind tell us what kinds of class have you taken to get 3.96.
the class listed below is mandatory required
1 Calculus I and II. University classic Physics I
2 you also need to finish two college level english composition class( which must be equivalent to English 1101 and English 1102
3 Four-credit CHEM course (lecture and lab) which must be equal to CHEM 1211K, 1212K, or 1310 in GT
that 3 requirement I listed is what you must be done. If anyone of those fail, you will not even be considered

For GPA part. GT will separate your GPA into math-calculus GPA and your overall GPA. For what I hear from my adviser. all of accepted engineering student will carry a math-calculus GPA at least 3.7 and overall GPA 3.65.
For BE, CBE, IE and ME. 3.85 for both is safe. ( with more than 45 credits )
Number of transfer credit is also crucial. 30 is minimum. But my advisor told me that
“keep in mind that admission process is competitive, students that are offered admission are ultimately those that go above and beyond admission requirements (e.g.: taking recommended courses and more) and doing very well in what they take. Most admitted students have more than 40 hours and have more than “required courses” for admission. We encourage students to challenge themselves, taking additional courses related to your studies.”

Bernoulli4prez,

First of all, extracurriculars aren’t going to play a role in your decision. The only thing that matters is your overall GPA, math/science GPA, the major you are applying for, and how many credit hours you have. Your GPA is fantastic, but AE at GT is both difficult and competitive to get in for. Assuming you have at least 30 hours that transfer as well as all the pre-req courses for AE, I would say you have a decent shot of getting in.

Do you guys think that the school in which you are transferring from matters? I know they say that they don’t care, but certainly someone who has achieved, say a 3.75, and a well established university is not seen as inferior to someone with a 4.0 at a community college. I’m not taking away from the student at a community college, if you have achieved a 4.0, that is the best you could of done, you have clearly applied maximum effort, and I think you deserve admission.

Hi
my advisor said university doesn’t matters. but they will peer compare you with others student that coming from same university. he said that will make process competitive.
Do you think AE is really hard to get in? AE is not even list in the that highly competitive table.
AE ranks very good in GT. but I think AE is not as popular as ME,CE or EE within transfer students
what do you think?

Hi LDC and audiadam,

In my opinion and from what I experience, I wouldn’t think the school you transfer from matters at all.

Yes, I understand what you talk about, LDC. If you come from a “established school”, it means you love to challenge yourself, it means you’re willing to pay more for education (or you value your education). But in term of grades and GPA, it depends a lot and mostly on the professors you had. Are you sure that all the professors at any other smaller institutions are easier than all of professors at better-known schools? No, not at all. If you go to small school (for example: Georgia Perimeter) and have a hard challenging professor, you better work hard to get a decent grade in his class. If you go to a bigger school (For example, UGA, where you come from), of course not all of the professors are hard. Some are pretty easy and laid back. I think you know what I mean now. I’m pretty bad at explaining sometimes.

So it makes sense that Georgia Tech has no way to weigh the workload of one school to that of other school. Last year, there were 1620 applicants (for transfer). How would you even think that they could classify the applicants into different groups based on the schools they come from?

In term of admission competitiveness for AE, I honestly don’t know. The answer to the question “is it really hard to get in” depends on who you are, what courses you take. For example, you asked your friends whether a calculus 2 class is hard. An A student would likely say “It’s doable as long as you study.” On the other hand, an C or D student may say “It’s ridiculously hard.” Which one would you believe? It’s best to contact the admission office. I, however, think they wouldn’t really tell you the answer until they accept or reject you.

Hi 1993
you are right. This is also what i believe. It’s more realistic for me to focus on my study. Now I understand why number of credits make big difference. When I was freshman, all the calculus, physic or chemistry is not that hard for me. But the most Engineering classes I am taking right now, it’s big challenge for me. I will have 63 credit done after this semester.

Hi
I submit my application last week. and I get a email said “Soon we will download your application to Georgia Tech’s student information system and begin processing your file. At that time, you will be able to log into our applicant portal, BuzzPort, to track the status of your application and ultimately receive your admission decision.”

in my GT application main page, it shows that “Application for Transfer Admission is currently closed”

is everyone get same email and have same message with me?

That’s a good point Daivin. I like would audiadam said, that people from the same school would be stacked up against each other. I think that makes sense, as there is no gauge to measure courses cross university.

Audiadam, I think it took 2-3 weeks for my application to be downloaded. I wouldn’t worry.

I’m applying for industrial engineering, and I have a 4.0 GPA.

wow perfect GPA

I have a problem about activating my GT account.
I got an email asking me to activate your GT account and access BuzzPort.
When I find my name and click on it. it shows that Self-service vetting is not available for me.
is there anyone has the same situation?

industrial w a 4.0 here too and all requirements done except linear which was just recommended
not sure if im actually gonna apply or not i got in last yr as a freshman so i wonder how theyd feel lol
better make up my mind quick

-

Hi, I applied for material engineering. I definetly finished my all requirements except for ENGL 2. I am taking ENGL 2 right now in spring 2014. In this case, my decision would be delayed until June 15 ?

unfortunately, one more thing is my spring 2014 will be done at June 11th, so my ENGL 2 grade would be recorded at like June 15th. If so, I was not supposed to apply for Fall 2014? Is there no way that I can save myself?

Thanks.

Hi activism93,

I’m afraid that’s the case. Georgia Tech is very strict on the completing the requirements to make it fair. If they say the document deadline is June 1, then it gotta be June 1, or they must make exceptions for everybody.

That’s too sad…
So… No possibility?
