Transfer friendly colleges for political science

Hello everyone,

I am looking to transfer to a new college and I need help with what colleges I should apply to.

I have two years of college done at Kenyon College. During my time there I took 2 non-consecutive semesters off and I am now taking time off again to work and for mental health reasons.

I have a cumulative 3.50 GPA:

first sem- 3.33
second sem- 3.40
third sem- All P/F due to COVID
fourth sem- 3.75

I have multiple internships at organizations like the ACLU, a political campaign, an activism app, and I am starting an Americorps job at a criminal justice and reentry org in 2022. At school I founded a climate change justice organization, had leadership roles in activism clubs on campus, and was part of a society focused on volunteering in the county.

I’m a political science major interested in criminal justice studies and I want to minor in Classics. I want to go to a school with a justice focus. I am mainly looking in metropolitan or suburban areas close to cities. I want a liberal arts education but don’t want school that’s too small (Kenyon was too small for me).

What colleges would be good fits for me, and what colleges are transfer friendly, esp for non-traditional students?

Thanks in advance

It seems you might be interested in the liberal arts curriculum at a school such as GW, @littylamp.

These sites will help you identify other potential ideas based on your main academic interests:

U of Cincinnati is an urban school with a robust Criminal Justice program with multiple specializations and a variety of field placement options, undergraduate research opportunities, and certificate programs. The highly-regarded Classics department offers a minor.

U of Pittsburgh could be another good option.

When I think criminal justice, I think Florida State and Florida plus Miami.

I think you will find MANY great options. Often times criminology weaves into sociology so even a public affairs might be good for you.

It just depends on size, geography and most importantly a place where you can excel.

Cost constraints and state of residency?

Many states’ public and universities admit a decent number of transfer students.

Occidental College in Los Angeles offers a lot of social justice type activities & majors, not sure about classics. The Fiske Guide To Colleges offers an interesting review of Occidental.

Your activities match social justice studies as well as the more narrow criminal justice studies.
