For anyone who has ever transferred from a UC to USC, how was the experience? Did you have to retake a billion pre-reqs? Was your degree progress severely delayed? I want to transfer as a bio major and most of my classes are quarter-long vs. the same courses at USC, but semester long. So for ex, if I take Genetics at UCI, will I have to retake Genetics at USC? I'm not even sure I'm applying, but I'm really considering it. Thanks!

Have you been in contact with any of the academic advisors in the bio department at USC? They would probably be able to answer your questions better than anyone here.

Don’t go to USC, however, unless they offer you scholarships that bring the cost down to where it’s comparable to UCI. If UCI isn’t working out for you, you might try applying to UCLA as well. Nobody should pay $46k a year for tuition, alone.

^I plan to do that but thanks for the advice anyway! I was just wondering if anyone has done it before.

I don’t count on attending USC, obviously, if the costs are going to be way over my head. I’m actually having to spend quite a lot, and take out heavy loans right now at UCI, even though my family income isn’t that high. Most of that strain is coming from the ridiculous cost of rent here and I heard they’re planning to increase tuition even more?

If I had the opportunity to attend USC, taking out about the same amount of loans, I’d take it. My parents are planning to move really close to the area, regardless of whether I apply/get in/attend so I could probably commute. I love the atmosphere there and I like the “global” approach they have to education. I loved my first year at UCI but I feel like this year, the professors are turning truly interesting subjects into hellish memorization marathons with the intention of weeding people out.

I am applying to UCLA too, but I probably won’t get in. I’m missing one quarter of Calculus and as many know, missing one pre-req for UCLA life sciences is basically an instant rejection On top of that, I am an intercampus transfer, which by itself is already reason for low chance of acceptance. I’m waiting on UCLA to see what they say about my situation. They haven’t emailed me back. I’m not very hopeful. In any case, I’m going to need to see how my fall quarter goes. My first set of midterms is this week and if my grades fall a lot, I don’t really see any point in applying to USC.

I thought I wouldn’t be so stressed about this because I already have a great institution to fall back on (well I know people think UCI sucks but I don’t really care), but as it turns out, this is on my mind a lot lately! I guess once you commit to something, it becomes important. Sorry if I am rambling mindlessly at you (I realize this should be in some blog, not here) but I really need to get these things off my mind x_x
