I'm a 24 year old male that has maintained a 3.34 GPA at a CCC in California. My major problem is the lack of classes I took each semester, as have one or two class semesters on my transcript. I went through personal family complications that caused me to maintain a light schedule in classes or even taking a semester off here and there. I have maintained a solid background of work experience, and I am attending Cal State Fullerton in Fall 2010. I was wondering, do you guys think there is anyway I can apply for a UC school and get accepted based on my lack of effort in education progression in my past? This would be for Fall Admission in 2011, I just simply don't want to risk waiting another year and transfer from the CCC. I'm taking 12 units this semester at Cal State Fullerton and my major is Business Administration; Concentration in Information Systems.

UCs do accept people with low GPAs but it’s a VERY low percentage (like less than one percent of all people enrolled in UCLA have a gpa of 2.9 or less) if you keep your grades up, then maybe. some UCs only accept transfers at the jr. level so make sure you don’t go over the units for jr if you’re trying to get in.

as for the likelihood that you’d get in, you might have had a better chance applying from CCC (which, i presume, is some community college?) but who knows, you might get in if you write an incredibly moving essay.

Hey, thanks for your response! I appreciate the feedback. I have decided that I am going to try my best to maintain a high GPA at Cal State Fullerton taking 12 unit semesters, and applying for graduate school.

well if you get a very high GPA at CSUF, then yes you can go to a UC for grad school. Aim for a 3.5+ for the UCs(well for bSchool at least, it’s higher for other majors)

otherwise, you could probably try to enter into a mid tiered UC like UCI asap. Your GPA would likely suffer as a consequence though so it’s a tradeoff. Bschools don’t care THAT much about GPA and care more about life experiences(as long as your GPA is OK)

I am going to apply for a few UC schools and schools in different states that rank higher in business programs than CSUF for Fall 2011 admission. I know my CSUF units would go to waste, but I’m willing to make that trade off, because if I don’t get into a good school in Fall 2011, I can continue and finish at CSUF pretty quick
