So I am currently a Freshman at one of CSU, and hoping to transfer to UC someday.

Recently I have discovered that transferring to UC from CSU is harder than I had thought..

One possible alternative came to my mind was to transfer to CCC for next academic year and then to apply UCs.

I have completed Calculus series, Freshman English 1, and some GEs. I checked assist.org and most of my credits are transferable to CCC I am thinking of.

So here are the questions,

Is my plan - transferring twice from CSU to CCC then to UC- plausible?
Do UCLA and other 'tier 1' UCs count applicants like my case as CCC students?

I would appreciate any piece of advice from those who are familiar with this issue.

You will be looked as a CCC applicant, as long as you enroll in 12 units during the Fall/Spring when you apply, since when they review your application, they will see that you attended CCC currently.

It depends where you want to go, but try to meet 60 semester units, and not that many more. Keep your GPA at a decent score, as the top-tier UCs are very picky.

Yes, it is very plausible. Many people end up dropping out of Cal States, go to CCC, and transfer to UCs.

You should also talk to a counselor at your CCC (or, even better, at the UCs you are considering) to see whether you’d be eligible for the TAG guarantee. Take a look at the TAG matrix at <a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors; Some of the UCs offering the admission guarantee just list the number of units you need to have in order to file a TAG but do not say they must have been earned at a CCC. I don’t know if you’d be eligible for the program but you ought to look into it.

When I was a Freshman at SDSU, I also had around a 3.68 GPA. I could’ve gone the CSU > CCC > UC route, but I decided to just stick it out at SDSU. I figured if I didn’t get into a UC from a CCC, I’d be screwed whereas if i got rejected and was still at SDSU, I’d have that to fall back on.

Anyway, I just focused on doing well in all of my classes and brought my GPA up to a 3.85 before applying to UCSD, UCLA, UCI, and UCB. I got into UCSD and UCLA and will (most likely) be heading to UCSD in the Fall. If you think you can bring your GPA up at your CSU, I’d say stay… who knows, you might come to love your CSU and plus you’ll be in a good position if you do happen to get rejected. I can tell you that I’m personally gonna miss the hell out of SDSU.
