Hi everyone,
i will complete my 3 years advanced diploma in April 2021, and i want to take a bachelor in the us. Anyone have transfer from a Canadian college to Us university before, please share some information with me. thank you very much.
How many of you college credits are academic subjects versus technical subjects? How do you plan on paying for a US university? Financial aid for internationals is only available at the topmost universities. What is your GPA? What is your planned major? In your other post you mention Texas Austin. Transfer into engineering or CS is extremely difficult.
I study business, my GPA is around 3.2-3.5 . Is that difficult to transfer to Texas Austin or school in top 100 in the State?
3.2 is quite different from 3.5. I do understand that the grading scale in Canada is different from in the US. However, US schools seem to understand that an 85 in Canada is an A or A- even if it is a B in the US.
I think that it is going to be tough as an international student getting financial aid at universities in the US. How much can you afford to spend to get your bachelor’s degree?
Why do you want to study in the US? Are you aware that getting a bachelor’s degree in the US does NOT allow you to stay in the US – you will be expected to return to your home country. “Immigration after getting a university degree” in the US is different from in Canada.
Paying for a US university as an international student may be difficult if in need of substantial financial aid.
It will be difficult to transfer into a top 50 university.
Boston University–ranked at #40 by US News–offers a business major. Great location. Cost of attendance for tuition, fees, room & board, and books is close to $75,000 US per academic year (almost $100,000 Canadian–I think).
For undergraduate business consider:
Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe, Arizona (Phoenix area);
University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona;
Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan;
Babson College in Boston, Massachusetts;
University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado (gorgeous town & great skiing within a reasonable distance);
University of Iowa;
University of Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania);
George Washington University in Washington DC (District of Columbia);
Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York;
Florida State University;
Miami University of Ohio;
Pepperdine University (California) spectacular setting;
Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas (lots of wealthy students);
University of Alabama;
University of Connecticut;
University of Kansas;
University of Nebraska;
Univ. of Massachusetts at Amherst;
University of Utah (generous with financial aid; gorgeous state);
University of Denver (Colorado);
Rollins College in Florida;
Seattle University in Washington state;
Fairfield University in Connecticut (great parties in a wealthy community not too far from New York City);
There are well over 100 more options.
The University of Texas at Austin probably will not admit you as a transfer with a 3.25–3.5 GPA.
Recommendations may be different depending upon your preferred area of study within the business major (accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, insurance / risk management, international business, management, MIS, marketing, operations mgmt / production, quantitative analysis /data analysis, real estate, supply chain management / logistics).
i can spend about 50k/ years. I just want to have new experiences after spending 3 years in Canada. I decided to back to my country after graduate so immigrate not a problem with me. So maybe i should apply to lower school like Sandiego state university? i am now study Business with supple chain minor.
i am now study Business Administration- Supply chain management. So with my 3.2 GPA what schools should i apply to get a bachelor?
Supply Chain Management:
- Michigan State University
- MIT
- University of Tennessee
- Penn State University–University Park
- Arizona State University (Carey School of Business)
- Ohio State University
- University of Michigan
8)Carnegie Mellon University - University of Texas at Austin
- Purdue University
With a cumulative college GPA of 3.25 to 3.50, you should focus on Michigan State University, University of Tennessee, & Arizona State University.
Penn State, Ohio State, & Purdue are the others for which you have a reasonable chance of admission.
MIT, University of Michigan, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), & the University of Texas at Austin are unlikely to accept you, in my opinion. But this does not matter as Tennessee, Michigan State, & ASU are great with respect to Supply Chain Management.
P.S. Arizona State University is among the top 5 largest universities in the US in terms of student enrollment. Very lively student social life. In the desert, but Phoenix (adjacent to Tempe) is a very large metropolitan area. Lots of fun. Major college athletics.
University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn. offers seasonal weather. Great outdoor activities in the Smoky Mountains. Big time athletics.
Michigan State University has the coldest weather of your best three options. Lots of students. One of the largest universities in the US in terms of number of students enrolled.
All 3 schools offer MBA programs as well as undergraduate business degrees.
.
SDSU is a strong California public university and is extremely competitive and popular. Priority admission goes to instate residents. As an international transfer, who is not a resident, your chances are not good.
I concur with @“aunt bea” that SDSU is a competitive school especially for transfers and even more so for International transfers. Definitely not considered a “lower school” and their Business program is well respected.
