Is it possible to transfer from a Canadian university (Queen's for example), with a decent GPA, to a top ranked US university? An ivy maybe? Because I heard that credit systems don't match and there are too many problems if you want to consider transfer from a canadian school.

Of course em. I’m transferring out of McGill hopefully to Cornell. I know that my math courses at McGill are organized differently so I only partially meet their expectations for their Multivariable Calculus for Engineers course, but hopefully they’ll see that it was completely impossible for me to do the equivalent course without doing pre-requisites which is what I was doing. It’s definitely possible.

Hey, thank you very much for the information. Do you think Queens has a good reputation for its engineering department? What kind of a GPA should I have if I go to Queens’ and want to transfer to top colleges in US?

Queens is good em. Ideally you should strive for the highest GPA you can get. You should try for 3.5+ but 3.7 is decently competitive, especially for a decent school like Queens. I found all these people from community colleges with 4.0s and I myself had 3.75 from McGill and I felt really discouraged but when people hear “McGill” a 3.75 means a lot because McGill is academically rigourous, so that made me feel a bit better. Try for a 4.0 but depends on the school as well. Don’t forget essays play a HUGE part in the application. There are LOTS of 4.0s turned down because of a bad essay and 3.5s accepted because of it. Write a good essay, and get a good recommendation. They will REALLY help you if your GPA isn’t a 4.0. Out of curiosity, where were you thinking of applying for transfer? Good luck.
