Transfer from cc to UCI and looking to switch to a calstate for business major

Dear forum members,

I am wondering if it is possible to switch into the cal state business major because the merage school is way too hard to get into. I am wondering if this is possible now at this moment even though the cal state transfer application deadline has passed. My major is business economics and it is not really the type of major I thought it was. I would like to be a business major. Thoughts please. Also, I transfered from community to UC. I am open to between UC transfers as well, as long as I can get a focus/ degree in accounting. I have a uc gpa of 3.567 after one quarter here at UCI. I believe that Merage looks at this gpa. What are the chances of getting the management or accounting minor with just the UCI gpa? My community gpa was 3.45.

Thanks,

I don’t think you have a chance for the accounting minor. Maybe on the management minor.

Yes. Econ is very different from Business. People should be aware of this. It is nothing like marketing, management, finance, and accounting like you get in a Business Program. I would recommend econ only if you enjoy math, stats, and issues that pop up economics. Other than that I wouldn’t recommend the major to people. You are better off in a business program studying finance/accounting.

My recommendation would be to DROP OUT NOW. Enter a CC and transfer to a business program at a CSU. Check if any are open for spring admissions.

CSUF and CSULB have great business programs!

You will probably have to spend a year at a CCC to reestablish yourself as a CCC student and not a UC student since I believe that CSUs are required to follow the same procedures UCs are and give admissions priority to transfers from CCCs over transfer applicants from other four year institutions. You may have to improve your ccc gpa since admission to csus has become much more competitive in the past two years and 3.45 may not be high enough to get you into CSULB and other more desirable CSUs.

I would suggest you look into Cal Poly SLO. They have a very good accounting program and undergraduate business school.
