Transfer from comm. college, need some good advice.

Hey everyone, hopefully you can offer me some reassuring advice on this one.

I have spent the last two years at community college deciding what I want to do with my life, there were many routes I was considering but have finally decided upon medicine. I am transferring to the University of Central Florida next year for a double major in Philosophy/Molecular Biology, and want to get a good idea of my prospects.

My first year was a mess, I was confused about my future, and wound up with a 2.75. Since then I have had a strong upward curve and will finish this year (my second) with at least a 3.2. I have 3 years left of premed and expect to have around a 3.6 at time of graduation from UCF.

At time of application to med school, I will have close to 400 hours of clinical volunteer experience, significant amounts of physician shadowing, and a very competent essay (I started off as a literature major). Also, I have never had a problem with testing, and have high hopes for my MCAT.

Do I have a shot? What worries me most are the words "Community college" on half of my transcript, including some basic premed requirements like Biology and some Chemistry.

Please offer up your opinions guys, this is a great forum.

Well CC + <3.0 GPA…not a good start. Are you done? No. But you’d better turn things around. You’ll want to take upper division chem & bio courses at a 4-yr to show you can do it as a B or C in CC is a pretty bad sign.

Another thing is that a community college is still a real college. Don’t think that it is any less than any other college.

community college is not a real college. (I am a community college student.)

My first year was <3.0, for the last two semesters I have been on Dean’s list.
