Hey guys, I'd appreciate it if I get as much help as possible.

During my senior year in high school, I made a terrible mistake going to the school I go to right now.

I go to CSU, Chico right now, and it was just not a great idea academically. Please don't ask me why :)

I have been researching online and asked people whether it would be a good idea to transfer from a Cal State to my local Community College here in LA then transfer to a UC.

Would that work??????? And could I do it after 1 year?????

I am currently in my first year in college.

During my fall semester, I took only 6 units.... and this semester I am taking at least 12 units.

Would it be a good idea to transfer from my current Cal State into my local CC this summer, and after a year transfer to a UC?? Maybe UCSB or UCR????

thats what i did. I only went to csula for fall and winter. Then left and finished all my classes at a cc and im now transfering to a uc. I only took 3 classes and 3 zero unit classes (math and english pre req). and i don’t think the 3 classes i took are transferable so i have no univeristy credit…

3.28 well i really don’t care about sb… my dream school is davis. And lit isn’t impacted at all so it really comes down to the major and not the actual school.

I had no problems transferring over units. You just need to talk to your counselor about the classes and he/she will approve them. I failed one class and retook it here at a cc and got an A. So basically what you need to worry about is whether the CSU classes will transfer over to the UC instead of the CC.

yes take this path! ***. if you want it so badly do it! DO IT and yes it is especially difficult to transfer from a csu to a uc… while if you go to a cc and then transfer to a UC you will have 1st priority.

It’s only difficult if you try to transfer from the actual CSU. If you leave Chico and finish up your GEs at community college, you’ll be considered a community college transfer applicant, not a CSU applicant. And getting into UCs as a community college student is a piece of cake. Just don’t slack off. Get good grades; aim high.

After this Spring 2012 term, I’ll only have 17 units.

Is that okay??

Also, if I do IGETC and TAG at my local CC, since IGETC is only 34 units, and I need 60 to transfer to a UC, what classes do I take after I finish the IGETC requirements???

It depends on your major. If your major requires a lot of pre-requisite classes, then you’ll have to take those whether they be on IGETC or not. If you finish that and IGETC, then you have to take up “filler” classes that are UC transferable. Make sure you know that you can get an A in those classes because they’ll boost your GPA while at the same time counting towards the 60 units.

If your grades at CSU Chico were good they will probably help you. Look, anybody can get a high GPA at a CC and the UCs know that but they are required by the state to give admission priority to transfer applicants from community colleges. Solid grades from CSU Chico would be evidence that you can actually hack it at a four year university that has significantly higher standards than a CC and should do well at a UC.

^ Funny you mention that CSUs are supposedly tougher: I’ve taken many courses taught by men and women who also teach at schools like CSULA and CSULB. They have taught, in each case I’ve had such a class, the exact same material that they teach the four-year kids!

Of course the whole idea is that CCs teach transferable classes that are as rigorous as the ones taught at the schools kids end up transferring to. They’re all GEs, anyway, eh?

Well that’s kinda the reason why I want to leave CSU.

I had the GPA and SAT to get into a UC when I was in high school.

I was being a stupid kid and I had a lot of family issues with my parents and I totally shoved aside my goals and chose the school farthest away from home, which is the worst decision I made in my life.

And I find that spending a thousand bucks for stupid GE classes and suffering in a town in the middle of nowhere is not worth it.

And the fact that I can’t transfer from CSU to UC (possible but near impossible), just kills me.

I’d rather be a CC transfer student with a 3.0+ GPA and be able to get into a UC.

I’m looking at Business Major in UCSB, UCI, UCR, UCLA(doubt it I’m too stupid lol).

The only 2 things that I worry about are:

Whether or not my financial aid will transfer over(doesn’t matter if I get less money, as long as I can pay the whole CC tuition).

If I can really transfer in 1 year completeing IGETC, and 60 units, especially with crowded CCs.

We’re in the same boat! I am currently at a CSU and I can’t stand it! I want to go to a UC so bad. I’m planning on doing the same thing as you. I think you should talk to a counselor at a CC. Good luck to you.
