HI! Is it possible to transfer from a CSU to a CC? Or can I just automatically go to a CC and not register for priority in CSU and still be able to enroll when I want to go back? I'm going to be a 3rd year at SFSU but I still have alot of G.E courses I need to take and so I was thinking about moving back home and taking CC then going back to csu OR if i go to a CC i want to either transfer to a UC somehow. So is it possible to transfer from SFSU to a CC and then get into a UC? or not? Thanks

I’m somewhat baffled as to why you would post such an important question on a forum. This should only be answered authoritatively by your counselor/registrar at SFSU. Schedule a meeting and discuss it. You need and discuss it. You will need agreement as to getting credit for courses you take outside of SFSU, so all the more reason to discuss it ahead of time with your current school.

I don’t see why fogcity ^ discourages posting this here… It’s what this forum is for.

You can absolutely transfer from a CSU to a CCC to a UC. In fact, your chances of getting into a UC are MUCH higher if you attend a CCC for a year first because it shows dedication to the UC transfer process.

As far as being able to “automatically go to a CCC and not register for priority in CSU and still be able to enroll when [you] want to go back,” this does completely depend on SFSU’s concurrent enrollment or term of nonattendance policy. When it comes to this, fogcity is right, you need to talk to a counselor.

Theoretically you would declare that you were not going to attend SFSU for a semester or two. Some schools require you to still pay a certain fee, others let you just leave and return at your scheduled date. HOWEVER, if you did this then you would be forfeiting the MUCH better acceptance rates from a CCC -> a UC, so if you end goal is to get into a UC then you really should leave SFSU permanently and enroll in a CCC.

If I were you I would leave SFSU, enroll in a CC back home, and when you’re ready apply to any UC’s that you wish to attend. I would also reapply to SFSU or any other CSU’s at this point as safety schools. Of course, the risk with this is that you may not perform well at your CCC and you’ll end up not getting into a 4-year the second time around. So it’s worth weighing how confident you are in your ability to perform well.

As i understand it, you can enroll concurrently at a UC/CSU and a CCC in order to finish up some GE’s. I have a friend who was in one of my CCC classes last semester who attends CSU Long Beach. I also know a guy who is a full-time 3rd year student at UC Irvine and was finishing up his GE’s at my CC.

Ask around, i’m sure you can do the same. You can always apply to UC for grad school.
