I am a GED holder with nearly a perfect score in each area of the testing. I currently wrapped up my Associates in Accounting with a steady 3.5 GPA and above through out my entire CUNY career, received mostly A's with an exception of a few A-/B+ in each and every accounting class I completed, made the Dean's List and a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. To add, the head of the Accounting department in my university is offering to write me a letter of recommendation sent to any university I ask him to.

I have been considering applying to 3 schools: UF, USF and UNF (even though my spirits are extremely down considering that I do not hold a high school diploma but instead a GED)

Given the above information, I'm wondering if I should even bother :(

*to add - when contacting all 3 universities, I was told that given my credentials I should go ahead and apply without worrying much about the GED part but I am paranoid that they are only saying that because after all, a $30.00 non-refundable application fee, isn’t something they should be turning down.

Definitely worth your time to apply. Think you have a good chance.

Thanks. However, after doing some extensive reading via this forum, I think I might pass on the UF application. I know it’s generally a “tough” school to get into and I was planning to apply anyway because hey, you never know but as I said, after doing some reading here on UF I got a little turned off @ the not-so-friendly stigma attached to its students and overall environment.

I’ve toured UF and I liked it. Not sure what people are saying about it here v

You have a GREAT chance of getting accepted to these schools… I’d personally choose UF ( fisher school of accounting ) if I were you. Good luck…

Well, for one I got turned off to UF due to gigantic classroom sizes and the possibility of not always being able to get the classes you need which will obviously result in my taking a longer time to graduate (I’m 26, I don’t have time to waste!) Also, the fact that it’s in the middle of Gainesville aka nowhere is making question how I am to find employment after my graduation, whereas for example - UCF - is in the middle of a big city, Orlando, which would probably allow me to intern and get placed for job by the time I graduate.

I know UF has a good rep but to be honest, I feel like there are more things people need to look into than just the “rep” of the school they’re applying to … I personally know people that got their Bachelors from a CUNY and people who have completed NYU and some of the people that finished CUNY are a lot more successful than NYU graduates. It’s more so about your drive and dedication and what you’re willing to do with your education than the prestige of the university you attended.
