so i'm an entering freshman to Northwestern in September, and i was wondering if anyone had any pointers in what i should do to get into harvard or columbia

i was previously waitlisted to those schools.. does that help at all?

does anyone have any experience transferrin from northwestern to those schools??

northwestern is notorious for its harsh academics (especially because of its rigorous quarter system -_-).. i want to maintain a high GPA.. so would it look really bad if i took something like spanish I??? (i took latin in high school, and i don't wish to take it in college ><)

any tips at all would be appreciated. thanks!! =]

Are you in Weinberg? FYI, average GPA of Weinberg was around 3.25 or so, according to a survey they did few years ago. That's not bad but not as inflated as the Ivies. The major grade inflation is in schools of education/social policy, communication, and music. I don't advice you to game the system. But if you are gonna do it and take silly classes at Weinberg, you may as well transfer to SESP and take something more useful there while maintaining high GPA.

na man, take what u have to take.

Hey Heidi,

I'm transferring from Northwestern to Columbia in the fall (I also applied to Harvard and didn't get in). Send me a message and we can talk.

hey intransit - i sent you a PM!

p.s. don't hate me, but i spelled your name "intranset" in the message

intransit.. i PMed you! please reply!

anyone else?

btw.. is it easier to transfer from a more prestigious school to .. let's say.. an ivy league school.. than transferring from perhaps a public university?

i have no idea about transferring at all. any tips would be appreciated~

I am no expert, but I think it does help if you already go to a prestigious school. I have noticed that many of those who transferred to Harvard come from top schools.

I transferred from Drexel University (80% acceptance rate school) to Columbia University. I would assume it's easier to transfer from a regular university than a community college, but Drexel is by no means Northwestern.

yea its all about your GPA, i would take a 4.0 at Washington than a 3.5 at Northwestern any day. the fact your at nothwestern means **** to the adcoms. students who have the will to do well, will do well regardless of the alleged rigoriousness of any college

I actually don't think that is true. I got into Harvard as a transfer with a 3.5 GPA--from Tufts University. And I have noticed that many of my fellow transfer classmates come from excellent schools. I think the most important factors of a transfer student's application is found beyond GPA and his/her original school. But a high GPA at a good school will definitely help at least.

thank you for your input, people =]

layla and confetti tea... congrats on columbia and harvard! my two hopeful schools! =( what did you guys do?!

I landed a research internship last summer (not with any program, just talked with a professor) and that got me a great recommendation.
