transfer to Harvard from Columbia

I posted this on the transfer page, but I was wondering what the Harvard one would have to say.

I'm applying for transfer to Harvard to hopefully enter as a sophomore. I'm a hispanic female fluent in Spanish and basically fluent in French. I was the valedictorian of my high school with a 4.0+ GPA. My SAT I was 800W, 770CR, and 710M. For my SAT IIs I got 790 French, 750 Lit, and 770 US History. At Columbia, for my first semester I took 22 credits, which is the maximum without a waiver (6 academic classes and also piano), and I got a 3.77. (3 As, 2 A-, and 1 B+) My two recs will be great. One of them will be from a class in which I met with the TA individually every week, so I got to know him really well.

As for extracurriculars, I worked at the Spectator translating articles in English to Spanish for the Spanish page. I also worked at the Double Discovery Center to tutor a NYC underprivileged high school student. In high school, I got first place in the National Spanish Exam (bilingual division) junior year, and I got first place regionally every year in the National French Contest and first place nationally in 2004. I'm also a Kluge Scholar at Columbia, and I play piano. I worked first semester as a French tutor.

What do you think?

Why are you thinking about transfering?!?!?!

I really wanted to go to Harvard, and I was waitlisted, so I want to try again. I really like Columbia, but not enough to make me think that it's the absolute best place for me. I also have academic reasons regarding my major.

Good luck! You have fine academic credentials and focused ECs. Transferring from Columbia to Harvard seems unique to me but when it comes to transferring I think it's all about the academic reasons for going to Harvard. They are both essentially (and this has been debated many times) on the same level prestigiously.

Transferring from Columbia to Harvard is a tad retarded imo... -_-;

If you're a Kluge Scholar you go to Fu (Columbia SEAS) correct? There's a huge gap in prestige between Fu and Harvard College. Not so much between Columbia College and Harvard so I guess a) there's a reason to transfer, but b) it's probably harder to transfer as opposed to say... transfer from Columbia College.

I am in fact in the College, not SEAS. Kluge just means that you're from an underrepresented minority group. You must be thinking of the Prescott Scholars, maybe?

Where would I find all of these profiles?

You sound like a competitive applicant. Most of the transfers Harvard accepts come from other great colleges like Cornell, Dartmouth, and Georgetown. Good luck -- that's all anyone will be able to tell you.

I transferred out of Columbia with worse stats and had alot of success getting into the top schools as a transfer. I think you have a very good shot.

slipper where did you get into exactly and what were you stats?

Yes, slipper, could you please provide this info?

I know he got into Dartmouth.

I can't see Darthmouth actually being regarded as 'better' than Columbia.

So not sure if thats really an upgrade.....put bluntly.

A better fit, for him.

I think you have a great shot, imo. For what it's worth though I don't think Harvard will necessarily give you greater "opportunities" than Columbia though...
