Hi, I am a freshmen at Sacred Heart however I know that this is not the place for me. I was interested in transferring to Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles for the spring semester. I was talking to the admisisons people and they said it is possible however they suggested that 30 credits be obtained first. They said that 15 is acceptable however and they will look at my SATs,ACT,and GPA from high school. I have 15 ap credits to go along with another 15 credits earned this semester at SHU. My High school GPA was about a 3.3. My SATs were about a 1300 combined (reading and math) and my writing was a 750. Is there a good chance to transfer? I hope to get about a 3.3-3.5 here at SHU my first semester. Can someone please help? especially if you're familiar with either school? thanks a lot and I hope to hear back asap! thanks guys

oh and I forgot, my ACT score was a 28 or a 29 and my SAT II's were about in the 600 range for Literature, math, and US history.

I am extremely familiar with LMU. I live 15 mins away.

They will definately look at your HS record a lot in making their decision since you are a freshman. Your sat score is higher than their avg sat score, but ur HS gpa is average; if you had a 3.5, i would say that you are in. LMU isnt that hard to get into, although now they think they are super cool or something, which they arent (last year they claimed that 1,000 students applied from which only 10 got in...thats such a lie! they are always lying about their #s).

Just get a good college gpa and you'll be ok. I think you'll get in, and if you dont, just reapply when u have 30 units. If you were to not get accepted for the spring, they will not charge you for reconsideration for the fall; all you would need to do is update your transcript.

PS. How do u know this school is right for you? Some of my friends dropped out and went to a local community college because they said that the school was very HS-like and too expensive. Alot of the kids there are pretty rich, since LMU isnt good with financial aid. Make sure you know what you are getting into! Also, i have been there and the dorms are sketchy!

Loyola Marymount is a 2nd tier university ....
With a transfer accpetance rate of 44% (US NEWS RANKING 2008) ... i think you have good chances to get in..

best of luck

i know that SHU isnt for me because it is exactly what you said LMU is kinda like. this school is a very, very expensive daycare for rich people and very, very HS-like. the academics aren't that great and you can basically argue your way into getting extra credits/units or into the honors program. I am from LA and that way I have been exposed to LMU quite a bit over the past couple years and i really liked the school and campus but I kind of took it for granted since it was relatively close to home. I think that LMU is a better school academically and overall better than SHU.
