Transfer from Selective College to Another Selective College

I am currently a freshman attending a Top 30 LAC in the country. Although I enjoy the academics and rigor, I do not enjoy its campus life, as the college is isolated from the community (and the surrounding community is not ideal to visit). This means I am stuck on campus all week long, and I feel a bit isolated.

I have made some friends, and I partake in a couple of campus activities, yet I feel a bit out of place.

I have been pondering the idea of transferring to schools with better campus locations that are on par with the academics I currently have now. I feel like I would enjoy my college experience more if I had a better chance to explore.

However, my parents are absolutely deadset against the idea of transfer describing the idea as insane and to not bother them with this thought.

I know it is a bit silly to ask for advice from internet strangers, but here I am, asking for some advice. I am a good student, expecting for this semester to receive high marks (I do not know if that is significant but thought would be wise to include here).

It is important to note that I would not be dissatisfied if I had to stay at my current school, but I am curious about the possibility of transferring.

Are you receiving financial aid at your current school? You May not get as much, or any, at another college. Your parents may also refuse to pay if you transfer.

I am in the same boat @jgaunt. Except I’m currently in a Top 40 LAC. Despite me being content with my current college, I will apply to transfer for increased happiness and a more central focused business major. Also, financial aid is not an issue which makes my selection more free and flexible. I would evaluate your next 4 years and picture yourself after its all said and done. If that vision is with a different school, then go for it.

If your parents won’t allow the prospect of transferring, your hands are tied. Have a sit down with your parents before even considering the prospect of transferring.
