I've seen numerous posts and heard from different ppl that your gpa from a community college does not transfer with you to a UC, however i spoke to a school counselor and they said that it does.. so just wondering if anyone out there knows for sure which is the case? thanks

My sister transferred to a UC and her GPA didn't transfer. Which is a good thing because her GPA was relatively low. She has a pretty good GPA at her UC now, and if the CCC GPA did transfer, it'd be a lot lower.

I was trying to google for a UC site with this information, but I found something close (College Confidential won't let me link the forum):

"It'll be part of your overall GPA but not your institutional GPA."

"Institutional GPA = the GPA from the school you graduate from, in your case the UC

Overall/Cumulative GPA = the GPA a law school, business school, med school, etc. adcomm will come up with having seen all your transcripts from all your schools taking into account all the courses you've taken, in your case it'll be the GPA one would come up with if they averaged together your UC courses/grades with your CC courses/grades.

So, to answer your question, no, the CC grades won't count in your UC GPA, but adcomms for graduate schools will see your CC grades and might make adjustments to your GPA based on them (this is definitely true for law school)."

the institution which you transfer to will not average in your previous college gpa, but grad schools will once they look at both transcripts.

Correct...although your grades at the UC will be seen as much more representative of you as a student.

Exactly... My CC GPA no longer follows me around (which is not a great thing), however when I apply to law school next year it's going to return and once again become a factor.

Wow so I could get a 4.0 at the UC level (but I super doubt this will ever happen)...

that is correct--and it would loook great to graduate schools

Thanks for the feedback you guys!

Whats your gpa at ucla now allena (if you don't mind me asking)?

He/she probably doesn't know yet.

Oh yeah, just transferred.

I'll know a lot more after next week how my grades will look. As of this exact moment in time, I've got two A's and an A- (So it'd work out to the 3.8 ballpark I believe). However with finals coming up things can change, hopefully in my case for the better.

:) A 4.0 would cause me great amounts of joy!

Good luck with it Allen...Rep COCers for life!
