I’m a undergraduate at Virginia Tech that applied for internal transfer into Architecture as well as applied to Pratt’s program ,and I got into both. I have been at VT almost 2 years at the end of this semester and I’m utterly torn between the two schools. There’s Pratt who accepted me to enter into the Bach. of Arch program in the Fall. Pratt is in Brooklyn and I really want to be in the city as well as my family lives just outside the city. Then there’s VT who accepted me into their Summer Qualifying Design Lab which doesn’t necessarily mean I’m in the program yet, I have to be at Tech the whole summer and there’s a chance that at the end they could say no. Virginia Tech’s program is higher ranked than Pratt’s and Tech is much cheaper, but I want to work in NYC. Also my friends from home all go to school around the city. So, basically it comes down to a school I would feel more comfortable in vs. a school with a cheaper, better education. I’m so evenly split between the two that I’m worried I’ll make the wrong choice. If anyone can give me their insight on how they would approach this decision or even experiences they’ve had at the schools’ programs, I would be hugely appreciative.
“Virginia Tech’s program is higher ranked than Pratt’s and Tech is much cheaper,” I’d say you answered your own question. Believe it, VT’s is very well known throughout the arch world, and you should have no problems getting internships in the city.
Save your money for the rent you’ll be paying for your studio apartment in NYC after graduation!
