Would the IGETC program allow me to transfer into a UC with a Mechanical Engineering major? Or do I have to fulfill the classes listed under assist.org and do the HSSEAS General Education Requirements? I won't be able to two at least two or three classes from the HSSEAS requirement, so should I attempt to transfer as undecided until I fulfill the requirements?

If you want to transfer to UCLA for mechanical engineering you need to follow the requirements listed by Assist. HSSEAS does not recognize IGETC so follow Assist.

As far as your transferring as undecided, I don’t know anything about that. I had no idea UCLA allowed undecided transfer.

IMO, IGETC is better suited to Social Science majors (Poli Sci, Econ, History, etc.).

Would this be the same for other UCs like UCI too? Because UCI and UCLA have different requirements according to assist.org, and my counselor didn’t really help much but give me papers about what to take for the IGETC and what I could check at assist. I’m starting to believe that I wasted my time doing the IGETC requirements.

Bottom line, the information you get from Assist.org is what you need to help you decide what classes you need.

Different UC’s require different courses for transfer student. If the req. for UCI and UCLA is different for your major and you plan on applying to both schools at the same time, then you need to take courses that both schools want. There is no getting around courses that are required to transfer, if you don’t have the classes that the school wants you are ineligible.
