Transfer into other colleges?

Are there any current Northeastern students who have transferred into a different college than the one they were accepted to as a freshman? Did you have to complete extra classes? How challenging was it? I've been accepted as a Bio major in the College of science, but I want to know if I can change majors or take classes in other colleges.

Thank you!

The sooner you change the easier it will be. Many kids change between getting accepted and starting in the fall. Otherwise, it depends a lot on the program and how rigid its requirements are. To switch into engineering or business where all four years of classes are pretty tightly scheduled may be more difficult than switching for example from bio to anthropology. You are allowed to take classes in other schools (if you meet the prerequisites). I have seen some business classes restricted to business school only and some higher level classes are only for people in that major (which makes sense). All of the degrees/schools have core requirements but many are the same. One difficult area is calc. There are different calc classes and requirement for different majors - econ, business, bio, engineer, etc. so that is an area to be careful with.

If you want to change majors/colleges, you can do so with relative ease unless you’re transferring into something with a lot of prereqs that make scheduling difficult or if it’s a really competitive major.

If you want to take a class that’s restricted to certain colleges/majors, talk to your academic advisor. For example, my freshman year I wanted to take a drawing class, but it was only for art majors, but my advisor got me in no problem. The main reason they usually do that is so that students who need the class can get into it, but if there’s space after they’ve all registered, and you meet all the other requirements, then you can probably take the class.
