Hi,
I’m applying as a sophomore transfer to various colleges for the Spring semester of 2016. I was wondering as to whether or not my grades in my current semester (at my current college) would matter and or have to be submitted if I were to be accepted as a transfer. I am performing poorly in one of my courses and am generally curious as to whether or not this semesters grades would matter if I were to be accepted as a transfer.
ANY AND ALL FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED.
Uh, yes. You think your current grades won’t count?
Your grades do matter.
Get your act together and pull that grade up. Your current college has a tutoring center and your professor has office hours. Take advantage of both of those.
I have already sent out my applications on the basis of my freshman year CGPA which was 3.85, I’m applying a sophomore transfer, what I’m asking is will the colleges require my sophomore year fall semester grades after I am accepted for Spring 2016(the decisions for which are due to arrive between November and December)? What if I choose not to transfer the credits I earn in this semester?
That’s not the point. The target college is weighing your riskiness for academic success. They usually list a min GPA for any transfer applicant. Seeing as it’s only one of your classes – and you’ve done very well to date (and in your other courses) – your GPA shouldn’t dip too greatly. Good luck
YES they will. They look at your entire transcript which will include your latest grades. If you fail or do poorly you could be rescinded.
Define “poorly”. Failing? D? Typically, any offer of admission comes with a clause that it is contingent upon the successful completion of your current coursework or something to that effect. And you are required to send in your final transcript (or transcripts if there was more than one school attended). You can’t pick and choose which semesters to send from your current school. They will send everything. So, yes, it matters. Technically, if you don’t complete the class successfully, a school could rescind their offer. I am unsure how often that actually happens. And the answer may depend on the school, how “poorly” you actually did, what the rest of your application looked like, and whether or not that particular class was a prerequisite for getting into the program to which you are applying. So, If you are accepted and you find yourself in this situation, I would recommend that you be proactive and contact your admissions rep and talk to him/her about it.
