I've been exploring the option of transferring into UGA lately, and I'm having a hard time finding a definite answer to this: I have a rather large amount of CLEP/AP credit from my current school, and I have been told that this credit will transfer in the same way my school's corresponding courses would, even in cases where UGA would not normally award credit for the exam had you taken it there. Is this true? I can't seem to find an official word on it anywhere.

I’d really like to get an answer to this question. Will AP Credit and/or Dual Enrollment credit count towards the 30 required hours?

Well, I’ve exchanged messages with a UGA official and gotten a partial answer: Dual enrollment should count as long as you have a regular college transcript from the dual-enolled institution. CLEP credit never counts.AP Credit will count if and only if it is marked on your transcript as a regular course with course number.

So, for example, if your transcript reads “MATH 2160: Calculus I, 4 hours, grade N/A (AP)” then you are fine, but if it is marked as “AP Calculus, 4 hours” then no such luck.

What I want to know is whether CLEP credit I earn at my college will still exempt me from the corresponding classes, even if it doesn’t count towards my 30 hours. In other words, will I have to go back and take English Composition if I transfer, despite having CLEPed it at my current school?

Thanks! I’ll have to see if I can get my registrar to switch those around. I wonder if duplicates count. I have (and I’m not happy about) 3 ENGL 1101 semesters. Will I get 4 credit hours or 12? I’ll do some calling . . .

You’ll get only 4, if I’m not mistaken, and may very well get just 3, as ENGL 1101 is just a 3-hour course at UGA.
