Transfer out of a school I like a lot?

I go to Union College in New York. It wasn't my first choice when I applied to schools in high school but they gave me a lot of financial aid and it turns out that I love the school. I've been involved in a lot of stuff and have made some great friends. Since I've been here I've realized that I was caught up doing things I thought I wanted to but didn't really want to and have made a lot of changes so that I'm involved in things I really enjoy.

One of the realizations I've made is that I want to study art. I had applied to a few art schools during high school but decided I didn't want to go. While I regret thinking that I did not want to study art in college I am glad that I went to a liberal arts school because I also love science and might double major in Environmental Science or Neuroscience. However, I am taking some art classes here and have realized that the art department is not what I"m looking for.

While I've met some great professors there are only a limited number of art classes in the program, which, I find disappointing. Also, the atmosphere of the school isn't really conducive to studying art and I feel like I might benefit at another school with a more rigorous program.

I'm not really sure what my question is but I'd like to here other people's thoughts. I really do love my school and would have a hard time leaving but am afraid I will regret not transferring because of the lacking art department if I do decide to stay.

Well, this is always a tough choice. If you really feel like you want to pursue art, you should apply to transfer; even you get accepted, it's not binding, so you have more time to think about it.

I suppose the best solution would be to transfer into a good art school in New York, that way you can still maintain good contact with your friends.

Thanks for the quick response!
I really do want to pursue art and I probably will apply and then decide if I'm accepted.
I was thinking Skidmore which is very close to Union although I'm not sure...
So far, I think Wesleyan sounds like it'd be the best choice. The art major there is exactly what I'm looking for.

I should also mention that I am considering taking a year off before I transfer. I'm not sure if that's goign to make it more difficult to transfer or not but I'm almost positive my plans will only put me at an advantage.
