Transfer out of UC to CC to UC?

I'm going to be a 2nd year at UCR this coming fall quarter. I like UCR, but it wasn't the college I wanted to go to. I didn't do too well in high school. 3.5 gpa, horrible SAT scores and my only extracurricular was marching band. I was thinking of probably retaking the SAT's again, but I'm still debating whether I will. I'm thinking of dropping out of UCR to go to a CC , and hopefully do well and my goal is to transfer to Berkeley, since I heard that CC's have priority. What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

I'm majoring in bioengineering, didn't do too well fall quarter, almost got kicked out, but I pulled my grades up winter quarter so now my cumulative is a 3.3.

I think it will be very hard to get into UCB. They will include your UCR grades and, if you had trouble there, why would they think you would do well at the flagship school?

i think you should stay in UCR and get your gpa up before thinking of transfers. Afterall, graduating from UCR is nothing to be ashamed. UCB is a far reach for you before and even harder now.

Engineering at any of the top UCs is competitive. Have you looked at the acceptance rates for transfers in the engineering department? You need to research and educate your self on acceptance rates based on gpas, etc.
CCC to UC is very easy to do, but it’s primarily a numbers game. The higher your gpa, assuming you finish all the pre-reqs for your major, the higher of a chance you’ll have of getting in.

Transferring CCC to UC doesn’t involve SATs, so you really don’t have a purpose for retaking them.

Lastly engineering, anywhere is going to be difficult. If you’re serious about transferring, don’t waste more time at UCR, enroll at your community college, but be aware that it may take longer to transfer because majors like engineering (i imagine) have a lot of pre-reqs and lower division requirements.

CC’s are guaranteed entrance into a UC with a certain GPA, but not necessarily UCB. Stay where you are.
