Transfer out of UCSB to CC?

I'm currently a freshman at UCSB and I don't like it here. I'm planning to transfer back home after spring quarter to go to a CC for a year and then hopefully get into UCI. Would it be possible for me to transfer within a year? And would I still be eligible for the TAG program offered by the CC?

If you can complete the major prerequisites and have 60 units in a year, you are eligible. However, you will have to make sure you don’t go over the unit cap.

I think you will be eligible for TAG, as long as you have 30 CC units and you will be coming from a CC.

I have to ask though, why stay for the spring semester?

When you say complete the major prereqs, you are counting for both my year at UCSB and CC right? I will have about 45 units done if I leave UCSB after spring quarter. What happens if I finish the rest of the prereqs at a CC but go over the unit cap?

I just thought that staying for the spring quarter would make it a whole full year UCSB. Would you recommend just going to a CC starting spring? I already registered classes for winter quarter.

Remember the 45 units at UCSB are quarter units while CC units are semester units. 45 quarter units equals 30 semester units. I highly recommend you go to your CC’s transfer center and contact UCI’s transfer admissions counselors and discuss your strategy.

Ah, I see a fellow Gaucho shares my sentiment

Have you thought about doing the UC to UC transfer jazz? If you can complete your GE’s here at UCSB, you can get a UC Reciprocity letter, which basically means you’ll be excluded from having to complete the GE courses for UCI (in the case that some requirements differ).

However, transferring to CC does give you many benefits as well (such as priority admission review, as well as access to the TAG program). Ultimately, the choice rests with you. Stay Gaucho strong, and I wish you luck in your endeavors.

From what I’ve seen from searching around, UC to UC transfer seems difficult and I find no point in trying to transfer after two years since two years is pretty long :frowning:

Thank you so much! Are you trying to transfer as well?

Yes it will be a combination of UCSB and CC credits. However, you might have to guess which UCSB units are equivalent for the major prereqs

It is completely up to you which school to attend. My view is always that you’ll be doing the same things at CC but for a cheaper price. Also, at least at my CC, the longer a person has been there the better registration date they get, which can be make or break in terms of getting classes.

Type UC transfer unit cap and see what the requirements are, since I can’t quite remember the limit. If you go over the limit, you are ineligible to transfer to any UC.

Do you mind telling us why you don’t like it?

Just curious, cause I heard of nothing, but great things from UCSB.

UCSB really is a great school but I can’t imagine myself living in IV and I feel isolated if I choose to live out of IV. The surroundings here just aren’t for me and I can’t stand the hot weather.

Thank you so much for making things clearer for me!
