Hi!
So, I have been writing transfer personal statements on Common App and found that what the Common App personal statement and universities' personal statements are asking overlaps very much. The Common App personal statement asks about my reasons for transferring and the objectives I want to achieve, but the universities' personal statements also ask about quite the same things: what you want to major in, why you want to transfer, etc. In this case, can I just write personal statements that partly overlap each other? Thanks in advance!!!

Depends on your schools prompts.

The way I interpreted it was that the common app prompt was much more board. It’s a message you could send to ALL schools. A place to put in experience, lessons learned, growth, marketable skills. etc. I even tied it into a little backstory about myself.

The prompts for the school asked about an EC or a Work Experience. I chose to reuse the same work exp from the common app essay but instead focus in detail on what I actually did, kinda like a mini-resume. The other prompt asked specifically about my academic goals so I just talked about why I liked that school’s program / what make it special.

Try to not overlap because the more content you can provide the better.
