Transfer possible?

I'm an Asian, freshmen at college, applying for sophomore transfer.

Public competitive High School - Instate
High School UW GPA : 2.921 (Pretty hard schedule)
Weighted UMich GPA: 2.75
ACT: 26
SAT: N/A
SATII: N/A
Class Rank: 146 / 321 - most of the kids that are ahead of me took incredibly easy classes and most have 3.5+ with ACT's from 18-21

College - Western Michigan University (4 year University)
GPA: 4.0 (16 credits) - hardest schedule allowed
Next semester: I'm taking 20 credits, pretty good chance at another 4.0

I'm applying to University of Michigan - Ann Arbor (LSA)

I'm can do good essays

The reason for my grade drop is because of a lot of personal things. Mother had mental disease, brother was born in my late Freshmen year and I had to take care of him most of high school, grandparents died, parents divorced, and father was gone most of the time on business trips for most of high school. Finally realized life doesn't get good with moping around, got my act together senior year, too late to make a true difference.

In terms of EC, it's not as much as general CC kids but it's something...

Violin for 8 years, Section leader of Violins for 4.
--In Chamber Orchestra of probably one of the best High School Orchestras in Michigan.
--Toured Europe last year Summer for Mozart's 250th Birthday
--Youth Orchestra Section Leader since 8th grade
--University of Michigan orchestra competition, only high school orchestra invited
--Solo & Ensemble 1st Division violinist and quartet leader

all in total about like 20-30 hours a week easily

Tennis for 11th grade - 15 hours a week
--JV Tennis

-Key Club for 10th grade - 5-10 hours a week

-International Internship at a design company in Shenzhen, China. Worked 40+ hour weeks and helped on a major project - (brought in an architect, was translator, and did actual work on apt buildings)

I know that it'll probably take 2 years to actually get into those schools, but I quite honestly hate the school I'm going to right now, so I want to get out of here ASAP.

I think your chances of transferring to Michigan, instate, with a 4.0 are very good.

bumpity, any more opinions?

if you can finish with 30 credits for the year and a 4.0 in college, consider yourself in. Especially since you are in-state

Hmmm 16 credits + 20 this semester, I'll show them my midterm grades... 36 credits at the end of the year, but I thought they don't actually count that. If they do, I think I have a decent chance, if they don't, I'm basically screwed in my opinion.

also, could you maybe chance my friend too?

30 ACT, 3.5 - 3.7 GPA, same HS as me, no EC, 20 credits so far, another 20 in process, and going for Engineering school (not sure if he can actually do that), he's at a Community College in Michigan as well ---

kinda worries me since he's pretty lazy and since Mich has rolling admissions... he probably won't do his transfer app till the night of...

For the 500 word essay, how much over would be acceptable? I'm writing about a setback I've faced, spans through 10 years --- I have around... 580~ words, thinking of adding 10-20 more...

would that be fine or should I cut that down to a better size?

that would be including the prompt which I have to include - the essay itself is 560

last bump, submitted my apps yesterday

I'll probably get a 3.8 - 4.0 this semester, taking 17 credits, bringing me to a total of 33
