hey everyone, I'm new to this site so bear with me, but I am currently attending a community college called TCC (Tidewater community college). I have been attending this college for two years and am trying to transfer real soon. However, I am concerned that the associate's degree that I'm getting (Liberal Arts) is not what i want to pursue in the college that im transferring into. What i want to know is if I can change my major from liberal arts to computer engineering or computer science (not decided yet) in the college im transferring to (probably Virginia Tech) even if i transfer with a liberal arts degree. It might be a stupid question, but i really just need help. thank you!

I’m pretty sure you would have to complete the pre reqs for either CE or CS at your CC since you have to be a decided major when you transfer as an upper division, but I could be wrong…

A counselor from TCC should be able to answer your question very easily. We can not answer it as each college has different requirements. You must find out specifically what that particular 4 year college allows for transfer.

Go talk to an academic adviser.

I would also talk to the lead professor of the computer science/engineering department of your community college. If Virginia Tech is like the UC system, they will want all of your math, science, and lower-division major coursework completed before you transfer, and they could care less about what GE’s you’ve done. Be careful, here…
