Hey guys, currently I take 18 credits, 3 sciences with lab, 1 research english writing class, and 1 math class. I am taking a lot of credits and this is a lot of workload for me. Overall I think I am doing well. It is about time to turn in my mid-term grades and I don't feel that confident. (I mean I have A and Bs, but the Bs are the ones that worry me.) Does the transfer admissions at CALS consider how much credit I am taking? Or should I attach a note saying that I am taking more than what is recommended and thus, I do not feel confident for my mid-term grade report. I mean I will still be consider as a competitive applicant with all my As and Bs in my mid-term grade + my 1st semester grades. Here is the break down.

My first semester GPA is 3.8.
On my mid-term I know I got an A in Cal 2 and physics and a B in English. So

If I get a B in Bio and Chem on my midterms then
Cal II : A
Physics w/ Cal base: A
English : B
Bio : B
Chem : B
My GPA with my midterm will be 3.575 (still competitive)

If I get an A in either Bio or Chem on my midterms then
Cal II : A
Physics w/ Cal base: A
English : B
Bio : B (or A)
Chem : B (or A)
My GPa with my midterm will be 3.697

If I get an A both Bio and chem on my midterms (I HOPE!) then
Cal II : A
Physics w/ Cal base: A
English : B
Bio : A
Chem : A
my GPA with my midterm will be 3.818

Please help comfort me!!! AAAHH!!!

I am not sure about the admissions office’s opinion, but I would venture a guess to say that a 3.575 is not very competitive for a transfer applicant, and 18 credits ± 1 credit (especially for hard math/science transfers) is fairly standard.

I assume you’re applying for CALS/Bio…a 3.5 is the minimum GPA required for transfer. Most successful applicants have a 3.7+.

DO NOT attach a note saying that you’re not comfortable with your midterm grades because you have a heavy course load…most applicants take more than the recommended courses and do very well. If I were on the adcom and saw a note like that on an application…it would seriously make me doubt the applicant’s ability to do well at Cornell.

Your grades aren’t bad…heck, I had a B and a B+ in my first semester and I still got in. Transfer admission to CALS/Bio is very competitive…everybody has good grades. I just hope that your essays were well-written and effectively communicated your reasons for wanting to continue your undergraduate education at Cornell.

^-- ok thx! Everyone said my essays are very good, to the point, clear, and shows my character. I just hope I can have more words so i can explain how much I really do want to transfer to cornell and why i love it so much. But people say my essays are very strong (I hope!).

Oh also, my school doesn’t use the + or - system. They just use A B C and F

^ha, i wonder if you’re at rit

Dewdrop, do u mind if u post or message me ur stats and how ur experience was when u apply for cornell as transfer? and what major and colelge were u applying for :O! im freaking out! >.<

Ok I will get a B in bio, but do u think next to it an my actual grade wil lmake it look better? like I have an 87-88% grade on that class.

Btw my GPA average with my semester GPA and mid term is 3.7. I got a B (88%) in bio, an B in english and I got all As from the rest of my classes. Do you think that 88% will help me? I mean so close to that 90%!
