Hi, I am currently a freshman at a smaller liberal arts school on the west coast. I want to apply as a transfer to MSU for the fall of 2012 but I'm not sure if it's worth the time right now.

In high school I had decent grades:
3.5 UW GPA.
School doesn't weight grades
3 AP classes, 1 Honors, skipped 1 year of science so advanced for 3 years
3 years of tennis-2 years varsity-1 year captain
2 years of national honor society-1 year officer
3 years of leadership
Over 100 hours community service
Short exchange program in France
1550-1600 SAT

( Was accepted to MSU as a freshman for the fall of 2011 but decided not to attend)

Now as a freshman in college, I didnt have too much difficulty adjusting to college life, except in my math class. I have always struggled in math, but I think I was able to fake my way through it when I struggled in high school, which isnt the case in college. I think I'm going to end up with either a's or high b's in my sociology and psychology classes and either a d or possibly fail my math class. I plan on retaking my math class next quarter, because I am just starting to find some of the many resources to help me. (Were on a quarter system by the way)
I havent been overly involved in college yet, besides joining 1 club ( A community service club) and have continued to do volunteer work though that and at my church.

My question is, is it worth me applying to MSU? Are my chances incredibly low because of my math grade?

Oh and I want to double major in international relations and criminal justice.

Thanks!

I wouldn’t say they’re incredibly low because of the math grad, but it is problematic. Obviously, it will not transfer since it’s below a 2.0. Have you considered dropping the class and just starting fresh next quarter? Or did you already finish with that class since you are on the quarter system?

What is your overall GPA right now?

Unfortunately I have already missed the deadline to drop classes. It was about 3 weeks ago. I do plan on re-taking this same math class next quarter, trying it with a different teacher, and just finding a way to make it work, but for now I am most likely between the d-f range.

Just to give a little background on the class, it is apparently the most failed class at my school. Not trying to make excuses for doing bad it in, but just wanted to give a little background on it.

I’m not sure about my current GPA, because my teachers haven’t updated grades on our online grading. But i am confident i will end up between the b+ to A range in my other two classes. It’s just my math class that is problematic.

Oh! and just to add this in, i copied this from a different thread, I already applied to Michigan state, I applied about a month ago, because it was my number one choice to apply too. But my application will not be complete until i send my college transcripts!

Hi, sorry but one more question. When looking online at the msu portal it says your application to Michigan state has been received. Once we have all required materials we will review your application. I submitted my app about a month ago. Its not a new app though its the same one I submitted last year they just changed the date. From my old app they already have my essay, teacher recs, sat scores and then they received my college and high school transcripts a little while ago. Is it just taking a long time to change or am I missing any necessary items?

Thanks again!

And sorry for any spelling mistakes this is from my phone

It takes a long time. I got my decision before that updated. If you’re worried then I would call just to make sure.
