I was admitted last December to Cal Poly SLO under early decision into the business administration major. At the time it was what I was set on doing but as of lately I have been questioning whether I would be happier as a computer science or software engineering major. I’m aware that major transfers at Cal Poly can be difficult, if not impossible, to accomplish especially into a different college (business to engineering). My question is how feasible is it that I could transfer from one to the other and if it’s possible what additional steps can I take to expedite the process so that I don’t waste any more time that I need to?

Start right away taking the freshman CSC/CPE series (101,102,103), and also the Engineering Calculus series (141,142, 143). Try to get into these classes when open enrollment begins in August. Make decent grades then contact the target department in Engineering after your first quarter at Cal Poly. If you passed calc and CSC with decent grades, they will most likely put you on a ICMA (Independent Change of Major Agreement) for the next 1 or 2 quarters. If you meet the terms of the ICMA they will let you into the new major.
