Hey, guys if you could give me some insight that would be great. So I am currently a 1st semester sophomore at Bentley University as an accounting major, and I have a 3.8 GPA. Last year I applied to transfer to a few schools the only one I got into was Boston College Carroll, I got accepted for this January. I am terrified to transfer cause first of all my GPA is going to reset, and I believe the coursework is going to get significantly harder (making it harder to maintain a solid GPA, seeing I don’t have that cushion from freshman year). Would you guys say it is “worth” the risk to transfer, is graduating from BC going to make a significant difference in my career and career opportunities?
Keep in mind my plan is to go for my CPA and work in the big four out of college. Not sure if I am getting 150 credits in 4 or 5 years yet.
Also, I will be paying the same for both schools, so money is not a contributing factor.
I was not in CSOM, but many friends were (I am a 2018 grad). First of all, I’d like to say that it is nearly impossible to transfer into CSOM, so you must have had a great application! Congrats!
I am biased because I loved BC, but I would think it is worth it to transfer. I think that most CSOM students have their jobs figured out before their senior year even starts (usually at KPMG, PWC, Deloitte, EY, etc). As an outsider, it seemed to me that CSOM students got a lot of support with recruiting. (Of course, I have no idea what the situation is at Bentley.)
I think you need to think about two major things:
- Why are you leaving Bentley? There must be some reasons for wanting to transfer.
- What else does BC have that makes it attractive to you? Location? Athletics/school spirit? Jesuit education? Ability to be involved with service?
Both schools have excellent placement for business students, that should not even be a factor for you. Bentley ( as you know) is top rated for accounting and has been rated in the top 5 career services in the country-for years. BC is also excellent, but no - BC will not make a significant difference in your career and career opportunities.
Why do you want to leave and what does BC have from a social perspective that you don’t have where you are?
