I'm currently a Freshman at RPI and I'm looking into transferring. I ended up attending this school because it seemed like the best option available to me after I received all my college decisions (I didn't do a very thorough job of selecting colleges to apply to). I know the academics here are good, but the school is too focused on science and technology for me. I'd like to go to a more well rounded school (I'm looking to study something related to design and visual communications, HCI, maybe even business). The other problem with the school is that the surroundings are terrible. I really wanted to go to a school in a city, but somehow I ended up here.

I'm wondering if I should try to transfer after the first semester or wait a full year. Although I'm not happy about it, I'm starting to think that staying here for a year and then transferring would be more beneficial because my high school grades were OK, but not spectacular, and I could use the time here to get a good GPA and transfer to better school than what I would have been able to apply to in the first place. Does this make sense?
