I'm currently majoring in either EE or CE at BU, but I'm not completely sure yet. Anyway, I haven't really liked the environment at BU, and have applied for transfer at RPI. In addition to it being a great engineering school, I like the normal campus feel I'm missing at BU.

Some questions though.
My gpa after my first year is 3.62, and I think it would reset at RPI. I feel that my gpa will be lower at RPI, so is that hit to my gpa worth just having the RPI brand name.
Also, how is financial aid for transfers. I would need around 18k in grant/free money type aid, to make it comparable to my BU fin aid package.
My hs grades were 4.39/5.00. SAT was 2010, 680 cr, 670 math, 660 wr, and SAT2 was 750 math II, and 640 us history.

SO, if I get in(find out in like 3ish weeks), should I go?

I’m an almost-fourth-year dual EE/CSE major at RPI and I love it here, but as for transfers it mostly depends on money and if most of your classes transfer. I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to get in as far as that’s concerned, but make sure you’ll enjoy RPI. There isn’t much to do off campus (without a car, the mall is about an hour away and requires a bus transfer as of last year, but it’s free with your ID). There are tons of clubs (I’m in 6) to make friends and keep yourself busy and for me it’s generally pretty fun.

You remind me of a guy at a nice steak restaurant agonizing between the Filet and the Prime Rib. Then getting his order, eating 1/4 of it, and sending it back asking for the other.

There really is no bad choice to be had here. The only danger is you may be viewed as fickle by some.

I got accepted, and am waiting to hear how much financial aid I will get. Also, if anyone has any input, what’s social life like being that there’s 3:7 guy, girl ratio?
