Transfer Questions

I just started classes at a community college this spring quarter after having to withdraw from a 4 year university for financial reasons. I know that extracurriculars play a key role in admissions for most (if not all) universities. However since, I live on my own without family financial support, I have to work 2 jobs (total of 50+ hrs/week) to pay bills and to pay off my remaining debt to my old university and really do not have too much time to join clubs and to perform significant amount of volunteer work. So as I look to apply to transfer to a 4 year university in a little over a year, I am wondering if my lack of other extracurriculars besides my jobs will hinder my chances of acceptance into universities.

For transferring, they mainly look at your GPA, so focus on classes. If you are working 50+hrs per week, I’m sure admissions will take in consideration of that. I think your working can take place of your EC.

Maybe try joining 1 or 2 clubs that don’t involve too much time. I know most clubs are just weekly meetings and you don’t need to go all the time!

Definitely mention that in your essay. What you’re doing seems more impressive to me than joining a few clubs.

How many units do I need from a quarter system community college to be able to transfer in a year? What classes am I going to need to take? On an average how many classes will I have to take?

Is it smarter to go to a 4 year private and then transfer where I want? This way I would be able to get the classes I want. Money is not the biggest issue, but it still is a factor. Not that its not affordable, but UOP is $34,000 after financial aid. One way or another I could find a way to pay for it.
