Transferring from a 4 year to a 2 year to a 4 year?

I went to a fairly prestigious high school. I also went on to a fairly prestigious 4 year institution. They gave me barely any financial aid, but I still thought getting a degree from this school was going to be a good idea. I got there and hated the environment. I also decided on a different major. Time passed and I missed most of the transfer deadlines. I couldn't spend another year there and pay 40k to attend. I decided to transfer to a community college. I am stuck here for a year. I keep getting this idea in my head that this is a terrible way to spend my time in college. I am also pre-law. Any advice on transferring? What should I do? I have a few schools I want to transfer to but I have the rest of the year to spend here at a community college.

I can highly suggest you look into schools that give (good) merit aid to transfers. There aren’t a lot, but there definitely are some. If your community college has a PTK (Phi Theta Kappa) chapter, join that. It’s basically like National Honor Society for high school, except for community colleges. You can get chapter-only and PTK scholarships by being a member. Membership dues are typically anywhere from $80 to $100, but that was a few years ago when I first joined.

As a transfer, you’re gonna need to work, work, work for money to pay for school to help either finance partially (or in some cases, wholly) your education expenses.

Many transfer applications are closed until the spring since those particular universities want to focus on their freshman classes the most. Make a list RIGHT NOW. Then fill out the applications as soon as they open. You can find out when they open on the website of each respective university.
