I have a 3.6 at RPI and have many EC such as being in the student government, honor society, etc. Would it be possible to transfer to places like vandy, UVA, UW, UNCCH, NYU? Any suggestions?
@racecarfanboy25 , any financial constraints? Test scores?(Some colleges on your list like Vandy do tend to fancy higher SAT/ACT scores) Are you entering as a Sophmore or Junior? Major?(This part counts a little more as a transfer student to some colleges, such as UVA, Chapel Hill and Vanderbilt.)
No financial constraints, majoring in BME but changing to Biochem, entering sophomore year. SAT and act are low but 1950/29
There’s one more ACT coming up before most Transfer deadlines- I encourage you to sign up, brush up on it a bit and try to raise the score as much as you can. If you’d like, there also an SAT Subject test coming in January. Take Biology and Chemistry, show your stuff.
Your chances are pretty decent for NYU and possibly UNCCH. You can make them much better though, good luck!
I’m an Economics major with a 3.8 @ UC Davis. That might drop to a 3.76 or stay the same this quarter. I’m a junior transfer looking into Emory, Vanderbilt, Cornell, Brown, and Dartmouth. SAT: 1450/2150 with pretty good ECs during and post high school and a few major profs lined up for recs.
Am I shooting too high?
@BillShakespeare , try to balance out that list with matches and a safety. Emory could be a very viable match. Personally, I have an equal number of reaches, matches and “safeties”, three each.
^Any suggestions on more matches? I’m also applying to UCLA and Berkeley, but I know the transfer rate there is skewed since CCC students have priority.
Is this thread just a general transfer suggestions type thread?
I’m at Northwestern and have around a 3.6 in an extremely math-heavy econ/social sciences program; I’m looking at Cal/UCSB/UCSD/UCD as either a math, applied math, or CS major (I have the CS and general science prereqs), or Harvey Mudd/Pomona/Caltech.
Coursework taken by the time of transfer will include Linear Algebra, Multivariable Vector Calc, DiffEq, Intermediate Microecon, Game Theory, CS principles 1 + 2, and writing/seminar requirements.
High school stats 3.955 Jr/Sr year with 10 APs, 34 ACT / 800 Math 2 + 800 English Lit.
Is it reasonable to realistically consider the UCs? I know they give huge priority to CC transfers, and even though I have the credits and the necessary coursework to apply as an upper division transfer, I’ll only have a year of college under my belt at the time of applications.
Otherwise, any other suggestions? I’m a CA resident and would like to return to the west coast if possible, but I’m also open to trying pretty much anywhere that’s known for not being super fratty. My family’s also pretty big on college rankings–I don’t think my parents would be willing to pay for smaller private schools that they don’t see as comparable academically to Northwestern =/
@1d51jklad1 , you certainly have the GPA, course rigor and test scores to be considered at the UCs, without any doubt. CalTech has very few transfer spots open, but it wouldn’t hurt to apply(keep in mind that they do have a transfer “entrance exam” that will need to be done at your college under the supervision of a proctor). Harvey Mudd seems like a great match for you.
@BillShakespeare Consider Claremont McKenna. They are highly specialized in Economics! Maybe Swarthmore, but that adds another reach to the list. CMC would probably be a high match in Chancing lingo~
I am a projected 3.75 GPA transfer FROM Emory to either UNC, UVA, UPenn, Georgetown. 2200 SAT, 3.81 GPA in high school, first gen. What are my chances for those?
