Transfer schools look for upward GPA trend

Some highly selective colleges say they look favorably on an upward GPA trend in high school. Has anyone seen colleges that officially say they do not have GPA cutoffs for transfer students, and they look favorably on an upward trend? I think Brown is one of these...

um, not sure, but i know a couple that do have some appareant GPA cut offs that are specifically stated on thier websites. Columbia says 3.5 is the minimum GPA. Rice University says 3.2 is the minimum, columbia is obviously a lot harder to transfer into, like by a lot.

Yeah, I know last year Swarthmore for instance mentioned a cutoff as 3.6, but this year they've changed their website and no longer mention a cutoff. I wonder what that means?

NYU's website says specifically that they do not utilize cutoffs of any type in their admissions decisions. Also, the question about upward trends has been asked alot on the NYU admissions messageboard, and NYU has answered that if your grades were low at some point that they do like to see improvement over time. NYU, however, might want a little explanation for your grades...

Just my fastidiousness, nothing serious:

'Utilize' means 'to make practical and effective use of'. If one were to interpret your post literally, it would mean that NYU does not make practical and effective use of cutoffs, not that NYU does not use cutoffs. You are better off just using 'use'.

Who freakin' cares?

university of chicago website says they take into consideration an upward trend in grades from high school to college...and i'm assuming it would be favorable...i think they reccomend a 3.5 at least, but you would have to check on that.
