I'm a freshman looking to transfer in Fall 2011 and my top choice right now is NYU Steinhardt for MCC, but I'm also looking at Fordham, Tufts, BU, Columbia, and Brown (yes I know those are reaches, especially Columbia).

I still don't know why my final GPA is for this first semester, but it looks like I'm going to have at least a 3.42, which is much better than my high school GPA, but still not as high as I hoped.

Is this good enough for NYU? I know that other factors are involved, but I can't tell if this GPA make me competitive or not.

With only one college term completed when you apply, your high school record and scores remain very important. We’d need those to assess chances along with knowing where you earned the 3.4.

I may have miscalculated my GPA and it may actually be above a 3.5… and as far as my high school grades are concerned, my cumulative high school GPA wasn’t very good (around a 3.0?), but there was an upward trend and I did pretty well my senior year. My SAT score is a 2060… I don’t think I need to retake it.

There wasn’t much room to take advanced classes during this first semester, so all of my classes are pretty much intro courses. If It matters, I currently attend a top 50 school, which is known for being one of the toughest graders in the country.

I’m really nervous because I was hoping for a 3.5+, but it’s looking like my GPA could be less than that… mostly because of a group project which got me a B instead of a B+ in a class…

NYU Steinhardt is really my top choice, do you really think that I have such a poor shot at admissions that I need to wait another year? I think that might be damaging to my mental health besides, my current school has nothing I want to study, I just went there because it was my best option.

I’m applying from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, which is a top 50 school known for grade deflation. I’m also going to see if one of my final grades can be changed due to an error. Also, I emailed NYU and asked about sending midterm grades from next semester.

I know that NYU’s average is a 3.7, but I had heard that Steinhardt’s is lower and that they’re looking for around a 3.5 and it seems like many people have been accepted with lower GPAs.
