Transfer Shot from Berkeley?

I know I dont have much of a chance, but do I have any? I am a freshman at Berkeley, applying for second year transfer. I don't mind it at Berkeley, but mainly I want to transfer because of the lack of undergraduate feel at Berkeley. I do like the fact that Berkeley has wrold class professors and research. I am a bio major and so those things are really important to me, but I would also like a school that cares more about its undergraduates, one that is smaller, and more personal. That way Stanford seems like a good match, I want to be able to have close faculty interaction, to be able to have housing for 4 years, to meet more out of staters, and have go to a school with more funding for research and other such things.

School: Berkeley
1st year 1st Sem: 3.87
2nd Sem: Who knows, taking Ochem, Comp Sci, English, War and Peace in the Middle East

SAT I: 2020, Sat II Math: 700, SAT II Chem: 700,

Currently doing research at Lawrence Berkeley Nat'l Lab

Very good facultry relations, so I can get great rec's I believe

High School: Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science, did extensive research here, along with lots of science fair,

Summer Jobs: Very good at programming, internship in a startup company, and neuroscicencec research at USC

I know transfer is like 5%, do you think I got a shot, or should I not even apply?

If you have the resources (i.e. time and money), I definitely think you should go for it. I am not experienced in the realm of what type of transfer gets in and what type doesn't, but it sounds like you've got good reasons about wanting to be at Stanford. Stanford's got a great bio program, and yes, I agree that you'll have good research opportunities. Best of luck to you.

geez, 5%!! but go for it, definitely.

Your SATI is a bit low.

yeah, i know my SAT's are low, thats why im wondering if ive got a shot, im going to spend a long time on the essays to make them as good as i can, how much does something like research at lawrence berkeley help

anyone else, opinions?

I'm pretty sure they don't look at SAT scores for transfer students. College GPA should be one of the biggest factors. Much more important than your high school GPA when you applied to Berkeley. They're familiar with Berkeley, probably had many transfers from there before, and know where a 3.87 GPA would stand. It's definitely worth a shot.
