transfer stories and advice: transferring up

How far should a student reach when transferring?? is it normal to come from a mediocre 4 year to a top 50 liberal arts school? where do CC students transfer?? have any of you had a lot of success transferring up in schools and where did you apply/come from??

Im transferring out of a school thats towards the end of the 1st tier on US NEWS for LACs.
i have a 3.5 and done a fair amount volunteer work and stuff around campus-- I'm applying to Bard, Skidmore, Bates, Ithaca, Reed, Lewis & Clark, Colorado College, Colby, and Hobart William Smith. chances?

Seeing as though most of these schools accept very few transfers im just going play it like crabs and hedge my bets. i've read of a lot of success from Community College transfers how about some success stories from CC students and from lower level Liberal arts schools??

anything… anything at all.

It depends. If you had good high school stats, but chose to go to a school beneath yourself, it probably won’t be too hard transferring up. If you’re a freshman now, it’s not too bad transferring into these colleges if you had near the stats their freshman admits are at.

thanks for responding. well im a sophomore, and my HS record was a little shotty i prolly graduated with a 2.7 i got like a 1700 on the SATs but from what i know because im two years out of HS this wont matter so much…or will it??

has anyone out there transfered into these schools or top tier LACs out of average schools?

hump de bump…

It doesn’t matter where you transfer from as long as you have a good GPA plus 30+ credits. Many students from CC or low-ranked universities have transferred to top 50 schools or ivy league schools.
I have completed 50 credits at a local community college and have been getting many offers from universities like Tulane, Cornell, Sarah Lawrence, St. John, Lehigh, Maryland, Texas Tech, and many more.

Some colleges still require SAT scores and high school records even if you have completed 30+ credits. Each college is different.
If you have less than 30 credits, colleges will normally weigh your SAT scores and high school GPA heavily.

If you browse through this thread there are many successful stories of students who have been admitted to great universities.

And if it has been two years since you took the SAT then the score will not matter anymore since you can NOT retrieve them.
