Does anyone know how transfer students meet other students at first, considering they do not attend freshman orientations? Is it difficult to be a transfer student or are they welcomed around campus? My daughter, if she is accepted, will start her sophmore year at ND. Is it pretty much like freshman year all over again for transfer students?

Irish68 has a website with info on transfers, and would be your best source as he was a transfer himself. Check for some of the threads on transfering. There is a separate orientation for transfers that is pretty comprehensive; orientation is a big thing at ND. Typically there isn't room for transfers in the dorms so they end up off campus, although it is possible to get into a dorm later on if space is available. (There has been some overcrowding in recent years and incoming freshmen and existing dorm residents have priority so that may not leave room for transfers.) There's a transfer coordinator (Ms. Susan Joyce) in the admissions office who can help -- I don't know her personally but that is one of her assignments.

The transfer orientation really is fantastic and you will meet a ton of transfers as well as former transfers. What happened with me, since I was off-campus at first, is I hung out with my fellow transfers and I met their friends and through this I ended up meeting a lot of people without trying. Additionally, if you come in as a sophomore, you will meet a ton of people in your classes. This is because everyone has to take the first year of studies so sophomore year is the first time that you will be in classes with your fellow whatever majors. Most of my fellow psych majors had no idea I was a transfer because they didn't know anyone else in that class either, so that helped me meet people as well.

Don't worry, meeting people really is not difficult if you try at all. I am introverted and I still had no problems.
