Transfer student- chance me please

Alright so I’m a transfer student and I applied to three schools: NYU, Boston University, and University of Minnesota TC. I’ve gotten into Boston and UMN, but I haven’t gotten a response from NYU yet. NYU’s deadline for transfer students was April 1st, and they told me on the phone people are getting letters in the month of May so I have to wait a little bit. I’m on the dean’s list and I am leaving this school with a 3.75 GPA after attending full time for 2 years. I’m a first generation Afghan American and as for work and other stuff I’ve been bussing tables at a local restaurant since I was 15 and I’m an oil painter (I used to go to an art school in my town for a few years but it sucked and I’ve been doing it on my own since). I did a bunch of volunteer work back when I was at high school but I didn’t include it in my common app as I didn’t document that stuff very well. I wrote a decent essay and I also got a teacher of mine that REALLY likes me to give me a letter of recommendation.

That’s pretty much it. I see a lot of HS kids on here that get like 36’s on their ACTs and have straight 4.0s with 50+ EC’s that are applying to the same school so yeah I’m a bit nervous. I heard from a few people that transfer students don’t need as much to get into schools compared to HS students? Not sure if that’s true or not but I sure hope so… I got into two other pretty good schools so I feel like it might be true to some degree. You guys are the experts on this stuff though so I’ll leave it to you to tell me. UMN gave me lots of aid, BU gave me 43k which is better than nothing but my parents are poor af and I don’t like Boston enough to work my ass off to pay the rest. NYU on the other hand… if they give me similar aid to BU I’ll do anything to make it work. Super anxious and stressed over this, haven’t slept well in a while and I’ve been smoking a lot more recently… I also mentioned in my “Why NYU?” essay that most of my dad’s side lives in NYC (not sure if they take that into account but though why not mention it). If you know anyone who was in a similar situation tell me how it turned out for them!

Your college GPA looks good and your college record will have the most weight, but hs grades and standardized testing can still be considered. Have you done any extracurricular activities while in college? Can’t really access with only a college GPA, but if you have good essays and recommendations, I think you have a solid chance.

However, NYU gives terrible financial aid packages, so just be on the lookout for that. I would not be surprised if it was significantly lower than BU’s aid.

When it comes to extracurricular’s I’m very weak unfortunately. I did a lot of volunteer stuff in high school that I didn’t document properly but in the past two years I haven’t haven’t done much outside of school. I’ve been almost only been doing oil painting in my bedroom and bussing tables. The latter I have been doing consistently since I was 15 but I underwent a major spinal operation last summer and haven’t been able to do it since, although I’m going to start working again in a few weeks (I also noted this in my common app).

As for testing, I took the ACT back when I was a junior or senior in HS but I only got a 26… It said that test scores aren’t required so I just didn’t mention it :/. I got a letter of recommendation from a teacher of mine that really likes me though, obviously I don’t know what she wrote but I’m sure it’s good, and my common app essay was really well done according to everyone I showed it to (I think it’s the best thing I’ve ever written but that’s not saying much lol). For NYU’s “Why NYU?” question I’m not sure I did too well on it. Let’s just say if I had a chance to rewrite it I would in a heart beat.
